NBA Recap, Top Plays and Photo Gallery for February 17, 2012

RECAP:

Charlotte Bobcats @ Toronto Raptors: 98-91
Michael Jordan celebrated his 49th birthday with a rare victory by his Charlotte Bobcats.

Reggie Williams scored a season-high 22 points and D.J. Augustin had 11 points and 10 assists to help Charlotte snap a 16-game losing streak by beating the Toronto Raptors 98-91.

Happy Birthday to the greatest basketball player ever!

Milwaukee Bucks @ Orlandi Magic: 85-94
For three consecutive outings, the Orlando Magic won games by piling up incredible outside shooting performances that their opponents simply couldn’t match.

To win their fourth straight, they got big performances from Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu and put together a strong fourth-quarter effort to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 94-85.

Sacramento Kings @ Detroit Pistons: 108-114
Rodney Stuckey scored a season-high 36 points and rookie Brandon Knight added 23 points and 10 assists as the Detroit Pistons rallied to beat the Sacramento Kings 114-108.

Tayshaun Prince finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Stuckey was 12 for 20 from the floor and 11 for 12 from the free-throw line. Detroit has now won six of its last eight games after a 4-20 start.

Miami Heat @ Cleveland Cavaliers: 111-87
LeBron James scored 28 in his third game back to Cleveland as a visitor, Dwyane Wade added 22 and the Miami Heat won their fifth straight— all on the road—by destroying the Cavaliers 111-87.

Miami has won eight of nine, and went 5-1 on its trip, winning by an average of 18.8 points.

New Orleans Hornets @ New York Knicks: 89-85
The Lin-ning streak is over. And Jeremy Lin’s sloppiness was one of the problems for the Knicks.

Lin committed nine turnovers, tied for the most in the NBA this season, and New York had its seven-game winning streak stopped with an 89-85 loss to the New Orleans Hornets on Friday night.

Lin scored 26 points, but his turnovers nearly doubled his five assists and the Knicks lost for the first time since Linsanity began, falling back below .500 at 15-16 heading into a matchup with the defending NBA champion Dallas Mavericks.

Denver Nuggets @ Memphis Grizzlies: 102-103
Gay had 20 points to lead six Memphis players in double figures. O.J. Mayo finished with 17, Mike Conley and Marc Gasol scored 16 points apiece, Gasol grabbing 14 rebounds and handing out eight assists. Tony Allen had 13 points and Marreesse Speights added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Dante Cunningham tipped in Rudy Gay’s miss with less than a second left and the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Denver Nuggets 103-102.

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Houston Rockets: 111-98
Kevin Love gave Rockets fans another reason to dislike him Friday night.

The All-Star forward scored 33 points, including eight straight during a key fourth-quarter stretch, to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 111-98 victory over Houston.

Golden State Warriors @ Oklahoma City Thunder: 87-110
James Harden scored 25 points, Kevin Durant added 23 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, and the Oklahoma City Thunder completed a season sweep of the Golden State Warriors with a 110-87 win Friday night.

Dallas Mavericks @ Philadelphia Sixers: 82-75
Dirk Nowitzki had 28 points and 12 rebounds, and the Dallas Mavericks erased a 15-point deficit with a dominant second half to beat the Philadelphia 76ers 82-75.

Dominique Jones added 12 points, and Jason Kidd had nine points, nine rebounds and eight assists to help the Mavericks win their sixth straight game. Dallas snapped a tie early in the fourth with a 9-0 run, and that was more than enough with the 76ers losing their touch in the second half.

Nowitzki nearly beat the Sixers on his own in the second half, scoring 24 points to match Philly’s team total after halftime.

Washington Wizards @ Utah Jazz: 100-114
After losing five of six, Utah Jazz players admitted to being a bit “chippy” at practice on Thursday.

They took out their frustration on a young Washington Wizards team, leading by 12 at halftime and scoring 38 points in the third quarter en route to a 114-100 victory.

Al Jefferson did most of the damage, scoring a season-high 34 points, including 26 in the first half and 14 straight in the second quarter.

Phoenix Suns @ Los Angeles Lakers:
Kobe Bryant scored 18 of his 36 points in the third quarter, Andrew Bynum had 17 points and 14 rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers handed the Phoenix Suns their fourth straight loss, 111-99.

It was only the fourth time in 30 games this season that the Lakers reached the 100-point mark. Pau Gasol had 13 rebounds and 10 points, and Matt Barnes added 17 points off the bench along with seven boards in 25 minutes. Bryant had nine rebounds and six assists.
